Managing Risk Formulas

A Risk Formula provides easeRisk for Jira with the information it needs to calculate risk fields based on mathematical expressions applied to other risk fields. For example, the field Risk Exposure could be calculated as the value of Risk Impact multiplied by Risk Probability, as explained in How to Configure Jira and easeRisk for Jira for Risk Management. A Risk Formula can be associated with one or more Risk Schemes.

Once a Risk Formula is associated with a Risk Scheme, the formula’s Target Field is automatically set as follows:

  • For all issues in the projects associated with the Risk Scheme where the issue type is a member of the formula’s Issue Types option.

  • Whenever the value of a field used in the Formula option changes.

To manage risk formulas:

  • Go to Jira navigation > Risks > Formulas under Administration.

Name

A unique name to identify the formula.

Target Field

The field in which the calculated value is saved.

To prevent users from inadvertently modifying this field manually, it should be removed from any edit screens in projects using the formula.

Issue Types

The issue types for which the formula is calculated.

Formula

An expression that includes mathematical expressions and Jira fields. The fields in the formula are entered between square brackets - for example:
[Risk Impact] * [Risk Probability]

Typing a left bracket "[" returns the Jira fields that match the characters that follow.

Create a new formula

  • Select Add Formula.

  • Set the options for the formula.

  • Select Add.

 

Associate a formula with a Risk Scheme

  • In the desired Risk Scheme, add the formula to the option Formulas.

  • Select Update.

After a formula is associated with a Risk Scheme, the target field of any existing issues is not automatically recalculated. To do so, you must select Re-calculate.

Edit a formula

  • Select Edit for the desired formula.

  • Set the formula options.

  • Select Update.

After a formula is updated, the target field of any existing issues is not automatically recalculated.. To do so, you must select Re-calculate.

Delete a formula

  • Select Delete for the desired formula.

  • Select Delete to confirm the action.

Only Formulas that are not associated with a Risk Scheme can be deleted.

Re-calculate the target field of existing issues

  • Select Re-calculate for the desired formula.

  • Select Proceed to confirm the action.

Only Formulas associated with a Risk Scheme can be recalculated. The recalculation can take several minutes, depending on the number of issues. At the end of the process you have the opportunity to download an error log.
