Problem

Writing a text in square brackets in folder and issue description will appear in red color and new line in Reading view.

Note: This issue may also occur for other fields that use Jira’s richtext editor, such as the “Delete Issue Comment“ dialog. However, Jira dialogs are outside of R4J’s scope and the workarounds and solutions suggested here may not work for them.

Cause

This is how higher Jira versions render text in square brackets. An Atlassian ticket was filed by the community to fix this but was closed due to limited demand.

Workaround

Use an escape character "\" before the opening square bracket.

Example:

Text \[Inside square brackets]

Solution

To resolve this issue, upgrade to R4J version 4.6.0 or higher.
