Overview

A Risk Board allows users to manage risks of multiple projects together in one place. It is ideal for Program Managers, Portfolio Managers, or Enterprise Risk Managers who need to manage risks from various projects in one view.

A Risk Board provides the same features for risk management as those for an individual project - namely the Risk Register, Risk Matrix, and Top Risks. Risk boards can be created by any user.

To open a Risk Board, select the Risks entry in the Jira main navigation bar and select the board by name. If the board’s name does not appear under Recent Boards, then select View All Boards and select the board from that list.

The Risk Board configuration and the actions to manage Risk Boards are explained in the sections below.

Name

The unique name of a board.

Administrators

The users are allowed to modify the board.

Projects

The list of projects whose risks and associated measures are included in the board.

The individual configuration of each project determines which issues count as risks, which issues count as measures and the link types used to associate measures with risks, and thus determines which issues are included in the board. See Understanding Risk Schemes.

Board Sub-query

The JQL query further limits the subset of issues shown in the board’s Risk Register, Risk Matrix (and Comparison), Top Risks, and related <LINK>Gadgets<LINK>.

If left empty, the issues shown in the board will only be based on the project risk scheme configurations.

ORDER BY clauses are ignored.

Risk Default Columns

The default list of risk fields to be displayed as columns in the board’s Risk Register.

Users are allowed to override the display columns.

Measure Default Columns

The default list of measure fields to be displayed as columns in the board’s Risk Register.

Risk Matrix Options

Explanation

Name

The name of a matrix.

x-axis

The name of the field to be used for the x-axis of the matrix, along with the low and high values.

y-axis

The name of the field to be used for the x-axis of the matrix, along with the low and high values.

Risk Level

The levels of estimated risk and how to display them in the cells of the matrix.

Matrix Layout

How the risk levels are distributed in the cells of the matrix.

The JQL query for filtering the board’s risk register and reports.

Risk Board Management

Create a risk board

  • Select the Risks entry in the Jira main navigation bar.

  • Select View All Boards.

  • Select Create Board.

  • Set the following options:

    • Name: the name of the board.

    • Projects: the list of projects whose risks and measures are to be included in the board.

  • Select Create.

You can only selects projects where you have Browse Project rights.

Delete a risk board

  • Select the Risks entry in the Jira main navigation bar.

  • Select View All Boards.

  • Select Delete in the entry for the board.

  • Select Delete in the confirmation dialog.

Configure the risk board

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the General tab and specify the general configuration options, as explained in the previous section.

  • Select Save.

The board’s configuration can also be accessed directly from View All Boards by selecting Configure in the board entry.

Add a risk matrix to a risk board

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the Risk Matrix tab.

  • Select Add Matrix and specify the matrix configuration options, as explained in the previous section.

  • Select Save.

Edit a board’s risk matrix

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the Risk Matrix tab.

  • Select Edit Matrix in the entry for the matrix and modify the matrix configuration options, as explained in the previous section.

  • Select Save.

Delete a board’s risk matrix

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the Risk Matrix tab.

  • Select Delete in the entry for the matrix.

  • Select Delete in the confirmation dialog.

Add a quick filter to a risk board

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the Quick Filter tab.

  • Select Add Quick Filter and specify the quick filter options, as explained in the previous section.

  • Select Save.

  • Open the board.

  • Select Configure in the upper right.

  • Select the Quick Filter tab.

  • Select Edit in the entry for the quick filter and modify the quick filter options, as explained in the previous section.

  • Select Save.

Delete a board’s quick filter

  • Select the Quick Filter tab.

  • Select Delete in the entry for the matrix.
