Comparing Requirements and Revisions

Overview

The comparison features of EaseRequirements provide a way to compare the values of corresponding fields of different revisions of a requirement, as well as the values of corresponding fields of different requirements. In certain cases, it also provides a way to overwrite fields from past revisions or from different requirements.

The comparison features are accessed from different parts of the EaseRequirements user interface:

  • In the Revisions section of the detail view of a requirement, two revisions of the same requirement can be selected for comparison.

  • In the Linked issues section of the detail view of a requirement, a linked requirement can be selected for comparison.

  • In the EaseRequirements “hamburger” menu, the entry Issue Comparison provides access to the Issue Comparison page in which two different issues can be selected for comparison.

  • In the Jira Requirements dropdown menu, the entry Issue Comparison provides access to the Issue Comparison page in which two different issues can be selected for comparison.

User Interface

The Revision Comparison dialog shows two revisions of one requirement or two revisions of two different requirements, with the values of the corresponding fields displayed side by side, allowing the differences between the values to be easily viewed. Display options are available to configure the view as desired. For example, there is an option to display only fields with different values. An arrow placed between requirements can be used to copy values between different revisions of requirements.

Textual differences between values are shown using red and green highlighting:

  • Deleted text is highlighted in red.

  • Added text is highlighted in green.

  • Replacements are shown as a combination of red highlighted text (the old value) followed by green highlighted text (the new value).

The display of textual differences is disabled for RTE fields when using this option.

Images are displayed with a placeholder for past revisions and baselined revisions, since Jira does not track attachment history.
